Local Missions - Koinonia

Hope Church partners with Koinonia to support those in need in our local community.

Koinonia Foundation is a 501 Christian nonprofit organization serving the Franconia, East Springfield, Newington, and Kingstowne areas of Fairfax County, Virginia. Koinonia partners with local churches, businesses, civic organizations, and individuals to create a place of help and hope for families in crisis. They provide emergency financial assistance, food, clothing and household items as needed. At Koinonia, clients are given help and hope with compassion and care!

Koinonia is located at 6037 Franconia Road in Alexandria. Hope Church provides donations, volunteers, and physical space to make their programs possible throughout the year.

Collection of Cleaning Supplies — 1st Sunday of every month!

Koinonia has asked Hope Church to collect cleaning supplies for families in need in our immediate area. Not only does this fill their pantry, but it meets a need not filled by federal or state programs. These can include household cleaning items such as:

• Dishwashing soap
• Windex
• Floor cleaner
• Clothing detergent
• Bleach

Or personal cleaning products such as:

• Body soap
• Shampoo
• Shaving Cream
• Razors
• Deodorant

August Angels — Back to School Supplies

Hope Church hosts the August Angels program. Along with other area churches, Hope contributes donations of school supplies, backpacks, time, and volunteers to supply more than 120 local children with backpacks full of school supplies.

Coat and Clothing Drive

When the weather turns cold there is an increased need for coats and warm clothing.

Adopted Families for Thanksgiving and Christmas

Instead of writing a check, during the holiday season the Hope community adopts several families — supplying families with generous food baskets for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. We provide toys and gifts for the children of the adopted families for Christmas. This gives us a more personal feeling about our giving.

Christmas Wishes Toy Store

Each year Hope’s sanctuary is transformed into Koinonia’s Christmas Wishes toy store of donated toys for those children who would otherwise go without during the holidays. With the help of other area churches and organizations, Koinonia provides toys and gifts to more than 300 local children.
