End Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women. One in eight women receive a diagnosis of breast cancer. The good news is that the survival rate continues to improve and now there are more than 2 million survivors in the United States. Several members of Hope UCC have had one or more occurrences of breast cancer. One of our missions at Hope is to participate in local and global fundraising efforts to end breast cancer through cancer research and treatment.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month - Hope for a Cure!

Our mission focus for October was Breast Cancer Awareness.  Hope Church partnered with USBC’s Bowl for a Cure in a breast cancer fundraiser.  “Hope for a Cure” was held at AMF Alexandria on Sunday Oct. 25 from 2-5 pm.

We had a great time bowling money and raising money for breast cancer.  Thanks to Pam Sheehan for organizing the event.

Hope UCC also had a team in the Breast Cancer Awareness League.  The league started March 6, 2009 and ran for ten weeks, ending on May 8. The cost was $20 for two games. A portion of the weekly league fees were donated to The Bowling Foundation to benefit Susan G. Komen For The Cure. The Bowling Foundation Bowl for the Cure has raised more than $7 million dollars for Susan G. Komen for the Cure in the 7 years of its existence.

The bowling alley is located at 6228-A North Kings Highway, Alexandria, VA 22303. Phone (703) 765-3633.  Another session is starting soon.  Contact Pam Sheehan for for more information.

By joining us and by participating in the USBC Bowl For The Cure event, you can knock down pins to help knock out this dreadful disease.
